TANGS Fashion Stylist, Chabom Chan

Our TANGS fashion stylist’s schedule not only entails grooming the fashion associates and workers but also in offering personal styling services to loyal customers and clients. As a Senior Fashion Stylist, Chabom Chan has graced the pages of fashion magazines as well as lifestyle television programmes. With a keen eye for detail and a strong passion for fashion, she has always believed that “…a sense of style has to do with confidence. All you need to do is find the outfits that suit your real personality.” We managed to catch up with her before she headed to Japan for a family vacation, where she shared her inspirations and fashion tips.

1. Describe your personal style. I would say my style is street-chic, funky and sporty, yet sophisticated. I love wearing chunky jewelry. I try to be as comfortable as possible, and I have always been known for having my own personal style.

2. How did you get into the fashion industry? I got into styling naturally and I blasted off my career as a wardrobe stylist for numerous TV shows. I have been very grateful and fortunate in working with some of the editors, producers, photographers and clients.

3. What does your job involve? It varies – most of the time, you will see me with a customer in a styling session or working closely with our Concept Retail Managers on merchandise before they arrive in the store. Part of my job is also to keep up with the latest fashion trends and news and arrange grooming sessions for staff. Sometimes you may catch me in a video shoot for a media interview or helping back-stage at fashion shows or events. Currently, I’m also handling Corporate Business for TANGS, whereby we offer gift ideas and corporate image consultations.

4. Tell me about your styling session. Each of my session begins with a consultation on the customer’s wardrobe strengths and weaknesses, existing personal style and style goals. I will find out my customer’s needs and preferences, study his/her physical outlook and personality, and walk him/her through the collections to fill in the wardrobe gaps. I will advise the customer on how to achieve his/her individual look. It is fun, and I feel thrilled to see them looking amazing.

5. Your fashion icon? Lady Gaga because not only she’s a great musician but she’s also a true creative artist!

6. Your favorite designers? Alexander McQueen, Jean-Paul Gaultier, John Galliano, Tom Ford, Miuccia Prada and Vivien Westwood. I’m a big fan of Spanish designers as well.

7. Which trends from the Spring/Summer 2010 that you are excited about? One of my favorite items would be culotte-jumpsuits. They are going big for spring season. I’m also excited about the colors and big accessories.

8. Favorite places to shop? Bershka in Europe, Prada and ASOS.com

9. What would be the one accessory that instantly helps you feel more stylish? It would be leather studs, which is a great way to add a bit more character and style to a simple outfit.

10. Most stylish city? Spain, simply because of its great mix of art and fashion. I get most of my inspirations from there. Nothing is more beautiful than Gaudi and Dali’s work of art!

11. Favorite vacation spot? Malaysia’s beaches, Barcelona and Madrid.

12. What is your current to-buy list? A new MacBook and perhaps, a nice pair of flats from Martina Pink. I’m currently looking for some new, quirky summer looks as well.

13. How do you spend your weekends? Unfortunately, I spend a lot of time working! When I’m not busy, I would usually catch up with my family and friends, and get things organized for the week ahead or do a bit of shopping in town. I always look forward to my Sundays!

14. Two fashion tips of your own?
A cardinal rule in fashion is to invest in a set of accessories that can spice up your plain outfits. Invest in a chic, quality handbag that can drag you out of the bed easily! Buy less expensive, trendy pieces that have a have a chance of going out of style sooner.
